Generally an Android phone has all the basic sensors like accelerometer, light, proximity, magneto, gyro, sometimes pressure etc. So is there a way to use Android's built-in sensors with an Arduino board (Uno) instead of buying the different sensor shields.

There are ways, but not easy nor convenient. Better pay a few bucks for something specific to your project – user31481 Sep 10 '17 at 8:09
It is possible to do that. You can get the reading from the android phone using an app and transfer the reading to arduino via Bluetooth or WiFi. Unfortunately there is no such app. This app can be used get the accelerometer reading and transmit it into arduino using and HC05.
