Generally an Android phone has all the basic sensors like accelerometer, light, proximity, magneto, gyro, sometimes pressure etc. So is there a way to use Android's built-in sensors with an Arduino board (Uno) instead of buying the different sensor shields.

There's such a solution, called 1Sheeld. It's pretty expensive though.
It is possible to do that. You can get the reading from the android phone using an app and transfer the reading to arduino via Bluetooth or WiFi. Unfortunately there is no such app. This app can be used get the accelerometer reading and transmit it into arduino using and HC05.
