And where is the Arduino in all this? – Majenko Nov 13 '16 at 16:28

You might also like to use the right baud rate. I believe the SIM900 has a default of 9600 baud, not 115200 baud. – Majenko Nov 13 '16 at 16:30
  • I wrote a basic code to call my own mobile from an Arduino but it dint work. So to check if there is any issue with SIM900A. I tried connecting it with PC directly. I even tried with baudrate 9600 then the only output Im getting is ........Hi...Z..Z... .A.T -- @Majenko – Satyendu Sekhar Nayak Nov 13 '16 at 16:37

    Oh dear. I assume your SIM900 board doesn't have a MAX232 chip on it? – Majenko Nov 13 '16 at 16:48
