Jun 16, 2018 at 13:00 comment added Majenko The ESP8255 can operate happily right down to 2.5V. LDOs really don't care if you go below the regulation threshold - especially if they are part of a family that has versions right down to say 0.8V (as most families do), since all that differs between them is the internal feedback network. You just get a (few) diode drop(s) worth of voltage reduction.

While there are indeed risks in using 4, with 3 (especially if they are NiMH not alkaline) they will probably fail to meet the regulator minimum input voltage midway through what should be their usable life, ie, to get 3.3v out you need more the 4.3v in, and most people would not consider an AA measuring 1.4 volts "dead". Going into regulator dropout does not automatically mean the board complete fails, but it's not really a good idea. The truth of the matter is that the NodeMCU is not designed for battery power.

May 16, 2018 at 11:07 comment added Majenko It is impossible to give any value. It all depends on your code and your hardware. To get that kind of length of operation of AAA batteries you will need to use some very aggressive power saving techniques (deep sleep modes, high efficiency regulators, isolated power domains, etc).
May 16, 2018 at 11:05 comment added Prashant Gokul Can you suggest me someway , that the board gets power for atleast a month? I tried 9V battery, and conncted the positive and negative to Vin and Gnd. The board started working abnormally. I guess 9V battery is overloading the board
May 16, 2018 at 11:03 comment added Majenko I can't tell you that.
May 16, 2018 at 11:02 comment added Prashant Gokul Thanks. How long do you think 3 AAA battery can last before replacing, approximately? Im connecting only one soil moisture sensor to the nodemcu.
